Where is the Canon A720 IS available ?

The Canon A720 IS has received great reviews but despite being just over a year old it seems to be very hard to buy. I wonder if Canon has stopped production, but anyway, can anyone recommend some reliable online shops to buy it from ?

It's a discontinued model - you'll be very lucky to find one.

A year is a long time in the life of digital camera models...:-(

The Canon website is down at present, presumably due to maintenance; it lists all the latest models.

The A720 IS is a current Canon model and shown as so on their web site.

Where did you read that it was discontinued ?

From here for a start:

and Jessops no longer lists it as being on sale.

Back in March Jessops had it on offer at £150 plus £30 cash back from Canon.

If you use e-Bay see:

You could consider the 10MP Powershot A1000IS which is around £130, but has a 4x rather than 6x optical zoom.

Yes, I was looking at the A1000IS and A2000IS, would have bought one of them but noticed they haven't got a viewfinder which I would prefer.

I'll wait and see if Canon bring out a replacement for the A720IS including viewfinder, but it might be a case of having to move with the times as most new compact models seem to be dropping the viewfinder in favour of a larger LCD.

But the A1000IS DOES have an optical viewfinder...:-)

It appears to be the replacement for the A720IS.

The model number in both cases indicates the available MP figure i.e. 7.2MB and 10MB.

The specifications of the A1000IS are provided here:

but beware that this particular outlet is mentioned in another thread.

Here is the full spec of the A1000IS direct from the Canon UK site. Yes, it has an optical viewfinder.

£128 from Amazon, post free. In my opinion, Amazon is probably the best on-line retailer.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out, it must have been the 2000 I was looking at. I'll investigate and decide. :)
