Satelite splitting. is this wise?

I have an LG tv with a built in satellite receiver I also have a Humax Foxsat freesat PVR which has sat cable in and a sat cable out the cable from the Dish goes directly to the PVR Then I have a cable from the PVR to the satellite input on the TV I've seen on previous forum posts that using a splitter from the dish is a bad idea In effect my PVR is acting as a splitter I'd like to know if there is any risk for example sometimes I could be recording something on the PVR while watching a satellite program on the TV I would have thought that Humax would have some kind of safeguard to prevent Such damage but I'm not sure Could someone please advise. Thanks
