DVD Ripper

As a newbie to DVDs "ripping" I need a basic program so that I can rip a piece out of a TV program I've recorded onto this computer to send to my son abroad. Something like Sony Vegas is way beyond my knowledge and my price range, so if someone can recommend a nice easy-to-use program I would be grateful. Thanks in anticipation.

Do you mean that you have a TV program on a DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW/RAM - format info needed - that you have recorded on a consumer DVD recorder?

This info is likely to influence the file format, which in turn may well influence the method of retrieval and software required.

Thanks ade for your reply.
I have recorded a half hour TV program onto my computer, 800 MB on .mpg format. I would now like to edit out the adverts and unwanted bits so that I can put it onto a DVD disc to send to my son. I dont know what software to use, your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Nero, go to dvd, create movie, load up the file and then edit to your hearts content.

Windows Movie Maker might be able to handle it, which you have already. Try it if you don't yet have any other software. I've not used it myself though.
