Can't add existing email account to Android tablet

When attempting to add a new email account to an android phone or tablet and validating server settings, I receive the message "couldn't open connection to server". I have an existing email account on the devices so know that the Server, Port and Security type are correct. Have tried many fixes with no success. Any help would be appreciated.

These problems can be caused for a variety of reasons.

Is this an Exchange account, or POP?

Which security protocol are you using? Try selecting STARTTLS and see what happens.

Alternatively, try using another email client - I have found that MyMail is very good when others have failed.
