I'm leaning towards buying my very first smartphone. The model that I like the most is the Asus Zenfone 4 Max. I chose this phone because of its large battery and it has all the features I could possibly need. Also I love the design and look of the phone.
Before I buy though, I have some questions about the phone.
On this website (Asus Zenfone 4 Max ZC554KL - Full phone specifications) the reviews seem to be mixed. Please can someone tell me what the build quality is like? Is it a strong robust phone or does it seem a bit flimsy and fragile?
What is the quality of the screen like? Is it easily prone to scratches? How long does it take to fully recharge the battery normally and on fastcharge?
Is the software functional and reliable? Does it lag? Talking of software, Are there any apps that I should steer clear off? Also, What apps would you recommend? Do all free apps come with adverts? What apps spy on you and collect your information?
The phone is available from two local shops at the same price. (Carphone Warehouse and John Lewis) Is it better to buy the phone and (new) simcard from the same shop?
As for which sim plan to go for, Is it better to go for a "Pay As You Go" plan or a "Pay Monthly Contract" plan? I should mention that I'm currently with the EE network and would be a "light" user of the new phone.

When I do get a new sim, will I be able to keep my existing number?
I realise thats a lot of questions, but I want to make a informed purchase and not regret it later.
Thank you for all replies.
