X600 256MB or X700 128MB

I am building a new machine: AMD XP64 3000, 512MBram (or 1GB) on a Nforce4 chipset Motherboard socket 939 (PCI-E)

Should I buy a 128MB x700 radeon graphics card or a previous generation (x600 or x550) with 256MB. Either for around £60

Use for nephew to play Harry potter games and for use with any games an eight year old will want in the next few years! Maybe used for watching TV/DVDs.

Thanks Totally-braindead. It seems the cheapest X700 wipes the floor with any and all x600's. Similarly X800 is noticeably better and so forth.

I will definately buy the highest Xnumber I can afford, and not worry much about memmory or pro v budget(LE SE)

The x700 128Mb would be the best choice of the trio. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee it'll be sufficient to cope with any game an eight year old will want in the next few years! G

Thanks again to TB. Thanks also to Crossbow7.

Without asking the question, I would have mistakenly bought an inferior card with more memory thinking this would have better performance.
