Why the new http://t.e. links in emails?

Apologies, but they are new to me ... Amongst my emails today, Black Friday, I noticed a number of odd link addresses. Such as click here etc - which doesn't properly work with my chrome browser it throws me to an anonymous sign-in window and click here etc - that works and click here etc and click here etc and click here etc

I used to rely on checking the link addresses to identify and avoid strange phishing sites, but now, though these seem to be legitimate, I'm loathe to use them. Where have the click here etc straight forward links gone?
