true

to get the most out of some modern graphics the cpu also has to be a decent spec.

eg. for the ati raddeon 9700 pro 128mb you really need a minimum 2.8ghz processor.

Lovely cards but if the computer is more than 1 year or so then your wasting money because of bottlenecks elsewhere in the machine (see March 03`s PCW mag for an article on this)

To give an older machine the most cost effective boost I would go for this:

Spending more might just be wasting cash.

If you have a fast machine then go for the cards suggested by lead.
