I'm looking to purchase a laptop to work on as a desktop replacement. There are so many reviews, some conflicting, so I'm stuck on what to buy. I need a very fast, powerful, reliable machine that will last for a few years. Money is tight, so max £1200. Can anyone advise please.
I have a Rock Quaddra XS. It runs like a dream. However it does take some getting used to if your current machine is noisy. The fan kicks in and out, sometimes making you think that a problem is occuring.
try dell i have had a dell inspiron 800UT i purchased july 2001, its 1 GHZ PIII 15.1" 256MB 133MHZ SDRAM 32GB hard drive cdr & dvd drives i allso got an extra battery ,and is still working fine and thats over 2 years, the machines they are doing now are much higher spec, and for £1,200.00 you should be able to buy a very good machine. i would look at wire free as that seems to be the future.
Many thanks to Expertec, SheffieldSpy and M7Mak for the quick responses and suggestions. I have looked at the Dell and was quite impressed as I was with the Rock. Evesham was also a plus, though they have had a bit of a slating recently in the reviews. Someone else sent me info on an Acer 1703SC, the Centrino version. Does anyone else know anything on this m/c, I haven't come across it in reviews?

Thank you all for your advice, plenty to go on thank you. It's always great to get feedback from the laptop users rather than straight from magazines as you are more likely to find out the little niggles as well as the marketing spec.
