USB-powered 2.5" external hard-drives

What are your experiences with these? I'm thinking of buying a Lacie click here
which looks excellent, but uses USB power. It has an extra cable for use with low-powered USB, which suggests that perhaps it's a bit marginal, and there is an optional mains PSU. I don't want to use that if I can avoid it as portability is essential. I have no prior experience of 2.5" external drives.

Absolutely superb ade.h, my experience of them that is, it's almost a travel companion. On the power side of things, I've always found mine to work fine without the extra cable, so long as it's plugged directly into a powered port. Even laptops prove no problem.

I have a Freecom 100Gigger and it's great, no power issues what so ever!

However it's as slow as a turtle...But I was copying about 60GB at once, at the time.

Thanks very much De M. That's reassuring. I think I can probably call that resolved!

Powerless posted as I was typing.

Thanks for the feedback, Powerless!
