too good to be true?

came across a firm called ECS-computers in Colchester selling laptops at very low prices. They don't seem to accept credit cards but require you to "wire" money to them after your purchase has been approved by management. Anyone heard of them?

I would have expected those Certificates at the bottom to be links not .gif's.

It seems a bit strange that a company claiming to specialise in computer solutions and having been around since 1992 only got a website in 2002.

The retail website was only set up last month yet it claims to be tested as "hacker safe" on October 28th, a couple of weeks before the site was set up!

If they start mentioning Western Union Money Transfer I would run a mile.

They may be legit but I always go by the saying if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

well spotted waamo + wee eddie. Think I'll stay well clear of this lot

With regards to the post, I followed one of the links in which the company state they do work for, and the companies "ECS" logo is on the website, so unless they got a scam going and the other company is aware of it, they would appear to be an extremely reputable company. Also the other Far East Engineering link also display the link and would appear to be a rather large company. I wouldnt find it too hard to believe that this company is legitimate however I could imagine they're quite expensive looking at the service they're providing.

Hope this of some help,

There has been a small company of this name at this address since '92

I would still be wary if the deal is for cash.

shall we?

Commonsense should dictate that you don't send any money to anyone via a website unless you know a little bit about the company you're dealing with. Use the telephone number to talk to them before you think about placing an order, and see what kind of a 'feel' you get.

Finally, remember the golden rule of Internet purchasing - use a credit card only. Any site that is serious about online sales will have some form of credit card transaction system in use - even if it's a third party card payment processor.

You may find ECS Computers of Colchester sometimes gets mistaken for Eclipse Computers of Coventry.Certain other forums sometimes seem to make this mistake.

The Far East Engineering Company is registered to the same person as ECS.

A link to each other is therefore no surprise.

The Independant Villas Company on the other hand appears to be completly seperate.

As the Forum Editor says I would be wary of any company, legitamate or not, that wouldn't accept a credit card.

As I said they may be legitamate but personally I would be wary.
