What is the problem here? I sold an item online but the buyer says he'll send a cheque for a greater amount, the balance of which I'm to return to hime via Westeren Union when the deal's completed.

not to fall for this.

Apart from following both Forum Editor and GANDALF <|:-)> send the address to the police who can add it to the intelligence database, and also flag it to other companies for fraud/theft prevention.
If ir was via E bay let them know as the 'buyer' may try it on with others.

So...you if you still have an unsold item, and a check that just cant be used, what have you lost? I think i really must have missed something...?

  Pamy 14:01 13 Nov 2007

the bank may actually have cleared the funds, but discovers later that the check is a forgery or was stolen.

  al7478 14:05 13 Nov 2007

OH. If id accepted the money in good faith id still expect them to make sure im not out of pocket.

  Pamy 14:06 13 Nov 2007

the banks dont loose, you do i'm afraid

  Pamy 14:07 13 Nov 2007

It's the same with counterfiet notes, you loose

  Totally-braindead 14:38 13 Nov 2007

Wouldn't happen al7478, in the posts I have seen about this the bank recovered the money from the person who got the check and it was them that was out of pocket.
The banks don't lose out but you do as Pamy has said.
