Seagate Warranty

  zincy 17:02 09 Sep 2005

Hello all

I was wondering if my seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160 gig hard drive is still under warranty, as i heard they have a 5 year warranty. The drive came with the medion computer i got from PC World about 2 and half years ago. So who do i contact to see if my hard drive is under warranty or not?

Many Thanks

Warranties on hard drives can differ on manufacturers terms and conditions, and whether the drive is OEM or retail boxed. The drive in your case should have the same warranty term as the computer package agreement.

Five years seems a little excessive, and I have never heard of any manufacturer offering this, in most cases the maximum is three years with minimum being one year on new drives. Refurbish drives normally have 30 to 90 days, again depending on sellers terms and conditions, but this can go up to 1 year from some outlets.

If you want definate information then check your computer warranty agreement, or contact PCW,Medion or Seagate. Seagate would require the model serial number for a reference.

seagates warranty page. hard to say if its covered or no, but you should get in touch with the company you bought the pc from as it may have a hidden partition where the re-install software is located if you was not supplied with the full version cd's of all software ie: windows.

As it came with a Medion from PC World, I would check with Medion & PC World.

You could use the Seagate online warranty check, just to see what it says click here. G

seagate have had a 5yr warranty on all there hard drives since middle of 2004 no matter what they are OEM, retail with the exception of external and thats understandable.

Yes the hard drive has failed on me, i double check with the software on seagates website and it failed. It doesnt even boot or format so i was wondering if i'm covered. The warranty that came with the computer is up so i guess it means i'm not covered?

thanks for al the replies

Have you checked with Seagate's online warranty? G

Yes thanks for the link
It says i should check with PCW or medion.
So i guess the warranty is not valid!
but thanks for the help anyways!

Seagate regard hard drives in PC's supplied by manufacturers as component parts and they are not covered by Seagate warranty on hard drives purchased direct by retail. In cases of failure Seagate will always advise you to contact the manufacturer if the drive was installed in a PC when supplied.
