Is that ram good for gaming

Would all depend on the motherboard that you have. Perhaps provide that information or go to somewhere like Crucial, who can or should be able to provide an answer Crucial click here

If your CPU is shite then no amount of RAM will help.

my laptop is toshiba satellite l50-A-119 CPU-I7 3630QM 2.40GHz the video card is nvidia GeForce GT740-2gb

Looks to be a good spec for a laptop. If you open task manager, set it to be always on top (under options) then click on the performance tab and select memory. Move it to a corner so it doesn't obstruct the desktop view too much so you can monitor your ram usage. If you have any software that eats the ram then an upgrade would be needed. I doubt, though, that you'll get anywhere near using the 6 gig you have. Worth monitoring for a while.
