Pipex 1mb Broadband

Anyone else signed up for or upgraded to this yet?

I only found out about the availability of this by accident yesterday and at only an extra fiver over the 512 service, the decision to upgrade was a complete no-brainer.

Very puzzling as to why Pipex hadn't emailed existing customers to offer the upgraded service - slack marketing department?

They seem not to be promoting it much. A friend sent me this link:

It will about £6/month more than the 512 service.

Yes, I know Derek - £28.95 per month- I signed up last night. Just wondered whether anyone already had it.

Ooh the temptation, I didnt even know they were offering this service, Anyone know how long it takes to switch over ?

i have pipex 512 and I don't think I 'd be prepared to sign up to a BT "trial" with no service level guarantees.

This is not a trial - perhaps you're confusing it with the trial of "extended reach" broadband?

  [DELETED] 18:36 11 Sep 2003

Technically, it is a trial, BT haven't even started upgrading exchanges yet and won't be until the start of october, so you'll have to wait about 4 weeks... didn't stop me from signing up though!

I stand corrected - apologies to magic - although the guys I spoke to at Pipex yesterday assured me that it was a permanent move.

will you also have to pay a £50 + VAT activation fee to Pipex, as mentioned in the ADSL guide?.

  [DELETED] 20:40 11 Sep 2003

That's the thing that niggles me about it. Existing subscribers must pay £35+vat to be upgraded, and a further £35+vat if they decide to revert to 512 - yet new subscribers get free activation. It's a little reminiscent of banks & building societies offering better interest rates to new customers than to their existing ones.
