is it worthwhile getting a notebook cooler or is it just another "must have" gadget you don't really need?

if i do need one ........anyone have experience of/can recommend the Akasa brand?

Unless you block/reduce the airflow, your laptop will be OK.

It is likely that mounting the base unit/keyboard a between 30 and 60 degrees will improve the airflow through the cooling system, but this is debatable.

I have a fujitsu siemens P4 3.0ghz laptop, and I use a cooler, it brings the reported temp of the HD down by about 8C and the CPU down by about 3C dependant on work being done.
