New Desktop!

As well as a new Laptop for my University Degree involving Animation, I am also considering buying a Desktop, could anyone advise me of a powerful and reasonable priced Desktop that is out?

Also, what is the difference between AMD and Pentium and which one do you think I should go for?

Also what are the better graphics cards out at the minute and for reasonable price?

Thanks Again, Lee

No real difference between Intel and AMD, can't compare them ideally. One maybe better than other at somethings but the AMD might be faster at some other tasks than Intel and vice versa.

I would halve the laptop budget maybe even down to £400, after all, it will mostly be used for note taking.

Then increase the Desktop budget by about 25%, with top of the range Graphics and Sound. Buy an external HDD, for backup and carrying really large files.

Then invest the rest on Freshers Week.

I think I'm going to buy the parts independently then get my friend who builds computers to fit it for me, what do you think of:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 90nm Socket 939
Kingmax PC3500 SuperRAM 433Mhz 1GB
Western Digital Caviar 7200RPM 200GB FDB 8Mb SATA
Enermax EG701AX-VE(W)SFMA 600W ATX V2.00 BTX & Xeon
Sapphire Radeon X800 XL 256MB PCI Express
Coolermaster Hyper 6+ Universal Cooler

That is a fast computer and perfect for playing the newest games with that graphics card. It sounds perfect. Just a suggestion : Why don't you replace the Samsung DVD Writer with an HP Lightscribe one. You can get the HP one at click here .

Other than that i think thats an excellent computer

dvd drives, I bought the new lg model, rated number one in the PCA mag, a pretty decent model it is.

I have two dvd writers and it's cool to watch the PC burn 2 disks at a time.
