Here's the challenge !

  curlylad 11:58 07 Oct 2004

The missus sister has absolute limit of £500 and wants a new PC package.

1)She doesn't need a new printer.

2)It wont be needed for dedicated gaming purposes.

3)For broadband use.

4)Doesn't need to have a excessively sized HD , 40 GB ample.

5)DVD compatible and perhaps CD/DVD writer.

6)XP Home.

7)TFT or CRT monitor not essential.

8)Some sort of warranty/support.

I know it's quite a lot to ask but time and time again you guys come up with the goods so can anyone help with this please ?

Depends whether you want ungradeability for the future, or whether you want value for money in terms of the here and now.

click here and have a look at this for an example. Decent spec, doesn't include monitor though, under 500 inc VAT. You can get an excellent quality 17" CRT monitor for example from eBuyer too for around 50 squids.

Hope that helps a little.

Take a look at Novatech, they do several systems that cover your needs and fall with the £500 budget.

This particular system is within your budget (once XP Home has been added on) and is a good system for the money.

Cheers for the links. However the second link with XP Home , a basic monitor and speakers came to £487.00 , £572.23 inc Vat but there are a few more on the link worth a look at , cheers.

Anyone else want to throw their hat in the ring ?

Dabs have systems too. click here to view them sorted by price.

Most don't come with a monitor, but it's be easy to order one seperately.

Or > click here <

£499 including VAT, and comes with a 15" TFT.

I would also need a floppy drive on the system , lets keep 'em coming !

Try the following...........

This particular spec. doesn't have floppy drive, but they build to order. And if you wanted external one, you can get one for about £15.

Inc. 15" TFT and 3 years warranty/service.

I've just bought 2 PCs from them and we are happy with the machines!!
