Which HD to chose for a quiet, reliable with reasonable performance HD:

Samsung SP1614N 160GB 8MB vs Seagate 7200.7 160GB 8MB

Which is cheaper?

I've used Samsung and Seagate drives, and found both to be very good, reliable, quiet etc.

Toms Hardware site has reviews of these two.

I have always used Seagate drives, partly because of their reputation and quiet running, but also because of the excellent software for configuring the drive and dealing with the existing software without difficulty plus then either retaining or removing the existing drive. It works well

Some Seagate drives retain the three year warranty for very little extra money, and it obviously worth going for one of these

Heard Samsung are not the best in terms of long lasting.

I have a Samsung drive that is still running fine after over 5 years of pretty intensive use (The machine that drive is now in also has a Seagate drive that is even older, and still going strong)

well, that has shocked me... Out I go to buy a cheap Samsung. LOL

I got some samsung batteries a few years ago, and they wouldnt even light a lamp for 5 mins. LOL.

thanks for all comments. The prices for both drives are about the same.
