also will this card (pny 7300gs 256mb) be able to cope with the latest games?

I can't see if the computer has a PCI Express slot or not so I have no idea if your computer will take it.
The card might take the latest games but I doubt it you need at least a 7600GS or better.

Before you do anything else see if your computer has a PCI Express slot. Not a PCI slot you have 2 of them a PCI Express x16 slot.

it currently has an ati x550 extreme 256mb card if that helps?
i know it does not have an agp slot.

It does appear to be a PCI E card I certainly found links to it and if this is the case then certainly the card will fit but its not up to the latest games in my opinion.

it doesnt really matter if i cant put all the graphic settings up to high, on my current card i can play games like fear on medium settings @ 800x600 resolution.

how much better would this card be and could you recommend any better ones (bearing in mind i have a budget of about £50)

The problem is I was unable to find a review of the card you have now. The x550 extreme must be fairly new and since I don't know how good it is I cannot compare it to anything else.
It might be as good a card as the 7300GS you mentioned I don't know.
To play the newest games on higher settings you really need something like a 7600GS which is what I have or above. I've played everything so far at 1024x768 with all settings on. Of course if I had the money I'd get something better, but I don't I'm stuck with this just now and its a cracking card for the money. click here

thanks for your advice , ill have a look on ebay for it + see if there are any good deals on the 7600.

Be aware that some graphics card put an extra load on your psu, I had to upgrade my ps when I got a new graphics card and it wasn't obvious that system problems were caused by the increased load

If you are looking for a 7600 series card on eBay you might want to consider this 7600GT click here

Bought one from the same vendor before Christmas and its a good card for £59.99 plus £10 p&p.

The 7600GT is a faster card than the 7600GS but there is the power issue as terryf has mentioned.
Bit puzzled at the Ebay item, had a look and there doesn't appear to be an additional power connector which there should be with a card as powerful as a 7600GT.
Perhaps phoenix198 could confirm it does need additional power.

I wouldn't consider the 7300GS if I were you...its gaming performance is poor.

Not so the 7300GT model click here

If I were you i would look for one of those.

The GT is around £15 more expensive than the GS but is probably the best budget gaming card around.
