Gfx Card

I'm unsure what graphics card I need. I was thinking about the 8800gts for my new machine. I am going to be playing warhammer online and starcraft 2. I know. Or are there any older graphics cards which are cheaper and would be more worthwhile on the finances to cut back on?

Consider the HD 4850 or HD 4870 - both are better than the 8800GTS.

What's the rest of your new machine like? Especially CPU, RAM & PSU? G

I am still deciding what to get. I have looked at the cougar extreme and for base unit only I think for £650 I can get.
quad 2.2 ghz cpu
4 gb ram
and 650w psu

Although its all really touch and go. I have contimplated making my own but with limited knowledge I fear the worst. How did you get into making your own pc?

is it a base unit only, or do you need all the peripherals too?

  Kawlos 00:11 27 Sep 2008

Only a base unit Joe. My current system is really lagging behind 2.2ghz amd processor. 1gb of ram.

I'm happy to go for the cheapest option with future proof for a couple of years the only games I'm interested in playing are starcraft 2, fallout 2 and warhammer online. Not really a fanatic gamer I don't have to have the best stuff!

I've got mouse, keyboard and my 19" tft monitor is old but it seems fine and don't know what different a new one would make!

What's your budget like? You mentioned £650 above, but does that include a graphics card? G

  Kawlos 08:56 27 Sep 2008

Well I'd say my budget is £700 incl gfx card! Thanks.

Is the psu for the bottom one enough? Those pc's are over £700 I am kinda using £700 with vat included as my budget.
