Externally powered vs. Non Externally powered Hard drives

Hello everyone this may sound like a very dumb question but I am interested in buying a USB3.0 Harddrive, which I want to be writing game footage on the fly to it. However is there any difference between read/write speeds of an Externally powered vs. Non Externally powered Hard drives? Also could someone out there recommend a good 2TB USB3.0 External Hard drive with good Read/Write speeds for recording game play to.

Thank you!

Internally powered is the way to go, as I have 2 externals and 3 internals and Im out of USB ports.Computers generally support 4 HDD/DVD drives internally and they do not need a USB/Plug point. If you want to go external Seagate drives are pritty good.

There's no difference in the read/write speed between powered and non powered HDs. If you're using a laptop with USB 3 then something like this might be a consideration.
