external dvd rw

hi im after an external dvd rw which will connect via the ieee 1394 sockets.i dont have usb 2 at present ,but if im right there is little difference between the two.so any recommendations would be appreciated.hope to hear from you soon.

External DVD recorders are very pricey at the moment. According to this USA website the 8x external USB and Firewire PIONEER DVR-S606 is already available in the U.S. price $279-88 on Amazon - which I reckon to be about £188. Should be available here shortly but at what price. We always seem to pay through the nose in the U.K. click here

Komplett, Coventry are listing both the Plextor and Sony external DVD writers at £284 and £250 respectively. Both are at present out of stock and on order. Both are listed as both USB2 and Firewire. click here
You say you have no USB2 yet on your PC. Have you considered purchasing a PCI USB2 Card? They are very cheap these days. The Belkin card costs just £17-61 from Micro Warehouse and you may find cheaper outlets. Try a search in Google.
