digital versus conventional slide projectors

I give illustrated lectures using photographic transparencies on a Kodak Carousel projector. Am going digital. Can anyone advise me (getting conflicting messages) as to whether digital projectors can provide equal/ better quality images than conventional projectors (projecting images at approx 6ft x 4ft)

The bulbs are not cheap and I've seen prices as high as £300 for replacements...:-(

Incidentally I regularly watch various TV programmes on a 72in drop down screen displayed by a quite small Toshiba overhead TV digital projection unit.

The full screen picture (and sound) quality is, frankly, utterly stunning.

However, a new projection bulb when needed is about £500 (less with an internet search).

Further to what Stuartli says, consider the economics. At those prices, can you justify the prices for replacement lamps bearing in mind that they are not very long lived anyway?

Also, the projectors are very expensive in their own right.

OK, perfomance may be excellent but, at what cost?
