which brand would you go for if you had 500 budget. It seems like dell have a better deal on the face of it but pcspecialist seems to offer better components like the PSU advanced cooling.

Which brand would you go for if you had to offer a hunch?

I have bought both and they are both good manufacturers, however in my opinion PCspecialist offered by far the best after sales service, also if you want something a little off spec Dell crucify you on the price

i seem to be gettiing the same spec for around the 500 pound mark but dell are offering a 17in tft monitor aswell. Is this because PC specialist are using better components like the fan and its more upgradabe??

PC Specialist will offer more in respect of customer specifications. Dell go for the mass production line method, with limited upgrading available. Dell tend to be more corporate market, with a smaller section for individual purchase. Would mention that some 'Dell' products are re-badged, and it pays to bear this in mind, for future service advice.

If decide to purchase Dell, and there's no reason why you shouldn't, then look at their price discounting methods for home users. Free delivery, extra ram, bigger capacity hard-drives, different warranties and free printers, can make all the difference with good savings depending on the coding and media advertisement.

One comment, don't ever be swayed by a free dell printer, the consumables are astronomical. Also with PCsprecialist you get the original manuals and driver discs for everything, I even got 2 free games out of the blue that were bundled witht he GFX card I had opted for. I even got a manual for the PSU. Also they tend not to put on all the crap you get with the larger boys ie AOL, numerous "free" 60 day trial software etc. However if you just want a bog standard internet PC then you could do a lot worse than Dell.
