Dell Inspiron 15 £549 - Good deal or avoid?

Hello!

I'm currently in the market for a new laptop. I need it for low-medium spec gaming, editing photos, etc. Nothing too major, but would be nice to get something relatively decent so I don't have to upgrade it for a few years.

Been looking at Dell's latest offer on the 15" £549 laptop: click here

I also rang them up and asked them to tweak the specs a little:

Core 2 Duo T6500 processor, 2.1Ghz
512MB Ati HD 4570
4096MB RAM
320GB HD (7,200rpm)

Do you think this is a good deal, or should I wait for something better to come along?

Thanks!

Sorry, meant studio - not inspiron. I am a moron!

hd4570 ok for less demaning gaming. notebookcheck.net has benchmarks for games. most laptops in this price range have worse cards.

That is a good deal indeed. The best alternative for the money I can find so far is a Toshiba Satellite P300-1GL click here:

- Core 2 Duo T6400 2.00GHz (slightly lower CPU)
- 4GB RAM
- 320GB HDD
- HD3650 Graphics 512MB (comparative to the HD4570)
- 17" (2" larger than Dell's)

Note that both laptops have a glossy/reflective screen: Dell with TrueLife & Toshiba with TruBrite. It would be best to see what this looks like firsthand - perhaps in a shop selling similar type screens - & in comparison to a matte screen, before opting for one. They are a bit of an acquired taste & you can either love them or hate them! G

Aah, I never really noticed the type of screen, but that is a good point! Thanks for the feedback everyone. Much appreciated.

Just spotted this Acer 6930G T7450 at Tesco for £499: click here

- T7450 (better CPU: 12 rungs higher than the T6500 click here)
- 4Gb RAM
- 320GB HDD
- 9600M GT (better GPU: 13 rungs better than the HD4570 click here)
- 16" screen (1" larger)

And £50 lower. G
