choosing a pc !HELP!

  dan boy 16:41 19 Aug 2003

I am looking to buy a new pc. I am wanting it mainly to play games. What graphics card, processor speed and memory would you recommend. (I'm wanting to play Half life 2, doom III) but on a tight budget.

Also does the size of a hard drive make any difference when playing games.

Any info would be a great help, thanks.

id say a radeon 9600 pro,xp2600 and atleast 512mb`s memory (2700 or 3200)

For DoomIII you will need a graphics card that supports DirectX 9 to get the full benifit of the game.

No the hard drive size does not affect the game....but its speed does.... get a 7200 drive.

Thanks for your help everyone. I think I'll get a Athlon XP 2600, 512mb of memory and definitely a graphics card that supportts direct X9. Not sure about the hard drive though, maybe a 80gb 7200rpm.

Once again thanks for all your help!

An 80 Gb Western Digital Caviar model with 8 Mb cache running at 7200 would be ideal.
