Cheque backed by Debit card...?

  Diemmess 10:26 01 Nov 2007

Once upon a time a cheque was a secure payment if the payee examined a supporting cheque/debit card and wrote its number on the back of the cheque before presenting it for payment at a bank.

Is this this still a valid method? The amount at stake is £320.

It depends on the value guaranteed by the card, some are £50, some are £100 and some are higher. Technically the person receiving the cheque should write the details on the back, NOT the drawer as this is not/was not in accordance with the rules

Thanks HondaMan,
Much as I thought except for the understandable bit about limited liability.

Payment has now been made to me using Paypal after all.
Also the buyer can't collect till Saturday, so that's that!
