Canon Pixma MP630 Multifunction Printer

  ipmr 15:57 01 Oct 2008

Canon have just brought out a new Multifunction printer, the MP630, which is a replacement for the popular Canon Pixma MP610.

As far as I can see there are not many major changes between the printers, the most significant perhaps being the change in the print cartridges which are being used. The CLI 8 cartridges are being replaced by CLI 521. The problem with this though is that the CLI 521 cartridges print about 30% fewer pages than the CLI 8.

Is this just an excuse to make more money from inkjet cartridges or are Canon actually providing anything useful to the consumer in the new model?

Don't know much about the Canon Pixma MP610. But I have just purchased a few Canon Pixma MP210 Al-in one printers at £16.99 each (Argos special discount price £39.99). At the price I paid, it isn't worth thinking about replacement cartridges ;o)

Why did you change yours? They're a fairly recent model and I can get all 5 carts (8s and 5s)for £7 each from a local shop.

Yes, ink is priced to to get a return on investment as the printers can't be too cheap to make and sell.

I'm very happy with the MP610.

Spuds, I can't follow your thread or find the MP210 at £16.99 or Argos . . .

I don't actually have a working printer, but have been considering buying the Canon MP630. However there seems little advantage over the older MP610 and there does seem to be the major issue of the higher printing costs

I paid £31.99 for each and had £15.00 cash-back from Canon.

Argos was selling the same model at a special price deduction discount price of £39.99 without cash-back details.

I was in Argos at the time, when someone was purchasing the MP210. I mentioned the cash-back, and the person was going to download the voucher. That little discussions possibly saved them an extra £15.00 off their purchase!.

You bought it as it replaces the MP610.

Would have to read through all the specs to see what the differences are, although a quick look between Currys MP210 click here= and PC World MP610 click here is that the 210 is half the price and half the resolution.

I can get the 5s and 8s for £6.99 each - the lady told me that was "what they were selling for on the internet" so I didn't argue.

All clear now.

IPMR - looks like I totally misread yours and got mixed with Spuds - you bought the MP630.

I'll get me coat . . . .
