Hi all, can any one recommend a note book for under £1k? General use will be for school/college work and broadband access for music downloads.

what are your criteria? is it a desktop replacement or something primarily going to be used on the move?

Try the Rock Quaddra XS. £799 excluding VAT. Excellent machine, but a broadband modem is extra.

Thanks for responding. Criteria are pretty basic, it will mainly be used at home, but will be on the move at times. It needs to be reliable as I am not an expert and would need to rely on external support.

I bought a laptop from click here I admit that I paid more than you £1000 budget but the quality & support has been excellent, and they do have plenty of machines that are priced well under your budget.
