buying an external dvd

would like to buy a dvd re writer to plug in to my compaq lap top...any general info?ive seen some in computer world and comet for about £140.any advice?

if you're not worried about portability but trying to cut cost, you could try what i have done:

i bought a cheap internal ide dvd writer for £60, then bought an ide to usb2 adapter from maplins for £40. as long as you have usb2 its a great cheap way to get an external drive

I bought an Amacom DiVid external DVD burner it came with £200 of free software ,It cost £199 at Christmas but now its £155 (i don't know if it still includes £200 of software)Its dual format in an external case thats both firewire & USB2
Check out Amacom website and telephone them they are both polite and helpful!
