ATI Thermal Protection Warning

Hi there.
I have a recent problem with my ATI Radeon X800XT graphics card installed only 6 months ago and with latest ATI 5.13 driver.
I have been playing HalfLife 2 game for months now but suddenly yesterday after only 20 seconds or so it crashed to desktop and a Thermal Protection Warning appeared stating ' Your graphics adaptor is running above a safe temperature. The clock frequency is now being reduced in order to lower the temperature to a safe level. Check that the system fans are fully functional and that airflow is unobstructed. '

So far as I can determine, all fans are OK and nothing is obstructed. A quick visit to ATI website does show that they have experienced this problem in the past with older drivers. Has anyone experienced this problem with the latest ones or is it likely that the card is kaput ( still under warranty )

Any views would be appreciated.
