Advice Needed: Office Printer for e-Commerce

Hello everyone, this is my first post here - so apologies if this thread is in the wrong section or if a similar thread exists.

I run an online menswear company and we currently use a HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z printer for printing all of our customer invoices. With the number of orders we get increasing all of the time, we've found that this particular printer isn't really up to the task anymore. It's a decent printer but not really viable for the volume that are printing nowadays.

On average, we're printing about 50 invoices a day currently - which takes quite a while with our HP printer as the print speed is quite slow. Can anyone recommend an ideal printer for a growing e-Commerce business?

Ideally the printer should be: Fast printing (this is probably the biggest requirement) Wireless Networked Energy efficient Cheap to maintain and run

We don't really need a whole lot of features and functions as the printer will predominately be used to print black and white invoices. I'm happy to spend up to £300 provided it meets our needs and is a high quality model.

Any advice and recommendations would be massively appreciated!

I cannot recommend a particular Brand, but can I recommend going down the Laser Route.

I'm my opinion the added cost of the ability to put a small flash of colour onto an invoice, far outweighs the small extra cost of a Colour Laser Machine and improves the image of your Company out of all proportion.

It also saves you the cost of having Headed Notepaper for all your other Correspondence.

I have a Samsung CLP325. It's mainly used for printing Time Sheets, which do not run if they get wet.

Many people get extremely excised about the cost per page and will buy Machine A rather than Machine B because of a 0.1p in the printing cost. That's not even the cost of a Mars Bar each day

Buy from a company that is able to put your machine back in working order - Fast. £20 or £30 of purchase price and 1p per page print cost are as nothing to the trauma caused by not being able to print your invoices for 48 hours.

Thanks for the quick response wee eddie.

We actually used a similar Samsung model in the past and unfortunately it did not last too long for us. With regards to coloured ink, we currently print our invoices with our company logo in colour but this is not a big deal for us. We are more than happy to print in black and white if it means faster printing and cheaper running costs, as the coloured area on our invoices is very minimal.

I'm leaning down the route of Brother printers, having heard a lot of praise for them. Would be nice to hear from anyone who currently uses a Brother model for business.

I have various printers, mainly due to easy replacement than providing for maintenance costs. Brother is one of my last purchases about two years ago. Cannot fault the product, even though its a cheaper 4in1 machine from their range. The surprising reward with that, was the one year warranty, that was increased to three on registration. No mention of this at point of purchase, just a card inside the box. Whether that was a one off offer, or the way Brother works, I wouldn't know.

For commercial production, I would suggest that you contact a company in your hometown, who might specialise in this market. Perhaps pick their 'expertise', then go from there. PCW/Currys always seem to have a fair range of printer's on display. Perhaps a journey there, might bring dividends, especially if a sales assistant should suggest a particular product, which you might be able to hold the company to account, if all does not turn out well.
