Acer X3810 question - windows 7 - 32 or 64 bit?

Hello all,

I have been on the phone to Acer and on the phone to Tesco - and neither can provide me with a response to this question.

Does anyone own this machine and know whether windows 7 is the 32bit or 64bit version?

Acer AS X3810 Desktop PC (Intel Celeron© Dual-Core E3300, 4GB, 500GB, Windows 7 Home Premium).

Acer did not know since it is not a current model on their website, and Tesco didn't know but were trying to find out, but I got cut off after being put on hold. 30 mins on the phone in total - and I thought.... let's ask the PC Advisor forum! I bet I get a quicker response!!!!

Update: phoned Tesco Direct again - sales team didn't know the answer. Tesco tech support did not know either. They suggested I buy the PC and then return it if the OS wasnt 64bit, or, someone could try and contact Acer for me. I have left my contact details with Tesco - I will give them credit for trying!

Update 2: Tesco called back, and nobody is sure if it is 64 bit or 32bit :-(

It's 64 bit

Thanks for the reply 961.

But that's for another edition of the X3810.

The one I am interested in only says: "Windows7 home premium" - with no mention of 32 or 64 bit.

If you look at all the other Acer desktops on offer from Tesco at the moment you'll see they are all 64 bit

Looking around the consumer market at the moment you may find, like me, that you will find it virtually impossible to buy 32 bit W7. They are all fitted with 64 bit. The business market is different with most installing 32 bit

I'm a 32 bit man but if you are after 64 bit the only advice I can give is to e-mail Tesco direct and wait the couple of days it will take them to find out or settle for one of the other ones on offer

As for telephone enquiries and 30 min holds, forget it, you're waisting your time and money

Thanks for the info 961 - very useful to know.

I wonder if an e-mail would really help me... The people in tesco sales didn't know and the people in tesco tech support didn't know either despite trying to check for me.

I'll buy a Compaq/HP machine I think :-) My budget can't really afford any more than £330.

to buy the machine if you like it, and if it turns out to be a 32 bit version, then just wipe it and install 64-bit Windows 7.

You can download the ISO image here then burn it to a DVD - click here

The product key supplied with the machine will work as all keys are valid for both 32-bit and 64-bit flavours of Windows. Just make sure you download the right version! (e.g. Home Premium / Ultimate etc.)
