Where should my "documents" folder live?

I'm a total Macbook dummy and would really value any help.

I am using a Macbook Air with High Sierra OS.

Where should my "documents" directory live? I placed it in "Macintosh HD" (after entering my username) but think that might have been a mistake. I'm also unsure how to move it out of Macintosh HD. Any help massively appreciated.

I think it should be in the "home" folder.

Thanks so much. I'm having trouble actually moving the file out of "Macintosh HD" into home. How should I do this?

Macintosh HD is the correct folder. The full path is Macintosh HD/Users/Your name.

Drag and drop it from wherever it is now into Your name.
