two nec monitors one macbook pro

i have two nec pa242 monitors that have dvi-d; hdmi; and displayport connectors.

i have a late 2013 macbook pro that i want to use with these monitors.

hookup was simple: got a mini displayport cable to display port and hdmi to hdmi for the other connection (two pcs use the other ports and differently on each monitor).

So far so good. Problem is that i can't close the lid of the macbook pro without killing images on the two nec monitors. "Three" monitors is too much. Is there any workaround? To use just the two necs and use the macbook pro just as the processing unit?

Thanks in advance.

i am the original poster.

figured it out: the mac book pro has to be plugged into its charger. Once that is done you can close the mac book pro's "lid" and use the two external monitors without any problem.
