Trouble getting MAC to find WEP

I am trying to connect a PC (XP) and a MAC (OS X4) in a wireless network.

Basically I have NTL which is connected in a downstairs room, and both computers are in different rooms in the floor above so I have got a Linksys Wireless-G router (and borrowed a friend's laptop to configure it). The sensible thing would be to perhaps get an airport card for the Mac straight off, but I have decided to give the D-Link DWL-122 a whirl (foolish maybe from some of the reviews I have read, but the other 50% were ok). I enabled WEP on the router and I had to set a passphrase and it generates 4 hex keys? The PC picks everything up fine and has been connected with no problems, but the MAC although can pick up the SSID and has a great signal says that we are entering the wrong WEP key. We are putting the right key in, and the settings I think are ok but it just doesn't want to know...I had a go at disabling the WEP but the MAC was still trying to enter a WEP key even though we had un selected enable? Any help is appreciated! Thanks :o)
