The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored

I wish to install windows 7/64 Pro on my mid 2010 27" i5 iMac 12 Gb Ram running MacOS Sierra 10.12.1. However, when I start Boot Camp Assistant i get the above followed by "The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows" As far as I am aware I have, according to disc utility, the normal setup of Apple HDD HUA722010CLA330 Media partitioned as Macintosh HD with 998.7 GB with 515.17 GB Free. Whats happening here? and how do I solve the problem? I already have the iso copy and the drivers downloaded to a USB thumb drive. Any help would be appreciated

It is telling you to partition and format the target partition as NTFS, I suspect.
