MacBook Pro to iMac cable

Hi,

I want to use my late 2013 iMac (thunderbolt 1) as a second screen to my 2020 MacBook Pro.

I’ve bought a couple of cables off amazon that have all ended up being output from the iMac.

I also have an adapter on my MacBook Pro which is hdmi etc.

Could someone please let me know the cable that will work or link me please? It’s over complicated and contradicting information when I read about it.

Much appreciated, thanks!

Assuming you are correct in saying that your MacBook is Thundebolt, then you need Thunderbolt to USB C. Assuming that you cannot locate such a cable you will need a cable adapter set from Amazon

You need Apple's bidirectional Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter.
