Lost contacts on iPhone 5s - is there a back up?

  wishtobwireless 19:36 14 Jan 2019

I have deleted an exchange email address that was from my old company, yesterday. I have now realised that for some reason this was set as a default account. Before deleting the account I changed the default to iCloud as seemed sensible at the time. I have also deleted this account from iPad and MacBook Air.

I now realise that any contacts I have added to my iPhone in the past 18 months have been lost. Can I get them back somehow by perhaps going back to an old back up somehow? I have no idea if this is possible or how to do it, and would be grateful for any assistance.
I went to Vodafone shop today and they suggested I go into Apple shop? Is this the thing to do or could you help at all?

I am in shock - that I could have been so stupid, but really thought everything was sound on iCloud!
