iPad and audiobooks using iTunes

Hello I'm trying to get some current advice on how to set up my Ipad using iTunes iOS11.2.6 so that my pre owned audioboks will continue where they left off. There doesn't seem to be any suggestion that work with new versions of Itunes. Unfortunately iBooks is not an option because my collection also includes home made MP3 commentaries.

"Unfortunately iBooks is not an option because my collection also includes home made MP3 commentaries."

Try this (no guarantees):-

Import your audiobooks or mp3s to iTunes.

Select your mp3 file in iTunes, right click and select Get Info from the pop up menu (or just press Command I) to get into the file's properties window.

Click on the Options tab then change media kind from Music to Audiobook.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply...maybe it's me but no matter what I tried I couldn't get the file to load on to my Ipad. So I went back to my old method and used VLC via file sharing and that works. I would have liked to have kept my audiobooks separate from my movies but.,..

Thanks anyway
