Help with internal optical Drive iMac

  Serina 18:29 08 Nov 2016

Hey So my partner just bought me an iMac mid 2007, it's running El Capitan well and everything is working except my optical DVD drive. I recently took apart a Toshiba Satellite C70D to sell the parts as spares. I have still got the internal optical DVD drive, can it be used on my iMac by just shaving the drive casing a little so it fits, or will it not be compatible whether I can physically fit it or not.

You could try it and see, if the connections - IDE v SATA and power are the same. With USB external DVD writers fairly inexpensive these days, might that be a better option? None of the current range of Macs have built-in optical drives.

Yeah I already have a USB one too, it's just I have the toshiba lying around and wondered if it was worth a shot, I liked the idea of having an internal drive to save having another piece of equipment lying about. I'll give it a try and let you know if it works
