Floppy Drive Sounds Like A Machine Gun!

Hi All!
Anybody had this problem before?, just recently (and only after having used the floppy disc drive), when I come to close Windows XP down the drive makes a noise like a machine gun which lasts for between 15 and 30 seconds, also the green light on the drive unit goes mad.

Although everything is still working fine I would love to know why the thing has suddenly developed this annoying little habit.

Any ideas?

Try leaving a formatted blank in the drive.
I pronably needs something to cuddle before it goes to sleep.
Seriously though the blank may help.
Plainly there is a residual item floating around that thinks it needs something
A HDD clean and Reg clean may cure it.

Your AV may be set to scan removable media on shut down.

The drive makes the noise as it is forced to run without a disk in it.
