Clear iMac hard drive

I have my mum's old Imac (a blue M5521) which she wants me to sell on Ebay for her.

I need to delete all personal information and just leave the operating system.

Any clues please.

Many thanks.

My mum cannot remember her administrator password and we do not want to let the system go without clearing the personal data.

Have you got the CD with the operating system on it? Best just to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the OS, same as with a Windows PC.

Unfortunately not, no disk at all.

Mum was given it a few years ago and for space reasons has upgraded to a laptop.

She suggests just wrecking it but I would rather format it and see it go to a good home with a few quid for mum.

Have you got the registration key? I could burn you a copy of Tiger (I've also got an iBook), but obviously you'd need your own key.

Or just simply delete - literally - all the personal info. Clear out the Documents folder etc. Tedious but effective.
