Apple or Microsoft Win 7

The time has come to upgrade my laptop..

I will mainly be using the laptop for email, internet (just general surfing) but I'm also interested in getting more involved in video editing (have just purchased my first mini camcorder) and the manipulation of digital photos.

A couple of friends have suggested getting a apple macbook, with my budget of £600 could probably afford a refuirbished one but do I really need it for what I want it for? or would I be better off getting a new laptop for around £500 and spending the remaining £100 on video editing software ?

I'm not really sure of the spec of the mac's V latest laptops.

What do you guys suggest?

My advice, for what it's worth, is that you will get a better spec Windows laptop for your money than a refurbished Apple.

I would practice using Windows Movie Maker for your first few video editing attempts. You will then get a better idea of what sort of video editing software to buy.

I'm currently using Corel's Videostudio X2 (about £70) and find it ample for my needs.

Hope this helps.

This is Lilly Michelle and newbie to this forum. My advise Microsoft win 7 is better than apple. You have better features in Win 7 than apple...
Thank You

They are a different planet to a user accustomed to the openness of PC's
You are constrained to Apple software for example- although some apps do have PC/Apple versions it is usually at the high end of the market - 'Photoshop' for example.
The good thing about Apple is it is less prone to internet nasties- than IE for example.

for good reason ~ Their machines are superb at Media type jobs, including Video Editing, Design Work and Desktop Publishing.

But you have sign into a new way of thinking.

For example: There is not a vast array of software, sometimes there is only a choice of 2, or maybe 3, Programs to do a Job but those are among the best.

The Games Market tends to give Apple a By.

You will still need an AV, but the choice of suppliers is limited.

Once you have had your Refurb for a couple of months, you will be thinking about spending £1,800 on one of the latest models. They are, drop dead, gorgeous.
