2nd screen for imac, thunderbolt ports taken

I want to attach a second screen to my late 2014 5k imac. This would be possible by using one of the 2 thunderbolt ports (mini display to vga). However, both ports are used and cannot be further chained. Using a conversion from usb 2 to vga would probably not work (I want to use the second screen for pro tools). Are there alternative solutions?

Ps why not use HDMI to one or both screens?
