Windows Blue Start Screen

HTC is reportedly planning to launch its first Windows RT-based tablets, codenamed R7 and R12.

The Taiwanese firm will reportedly launch the R7 and R12 tablets later this year, according to PhoneArena. HTC's upcoming devices will be 7in and 12in in screen size, matching the codenames and the R is thought to mean they will run on Windows RT with the Windows Blue update. The HTC R7 could use a Full HD screen resolution and have some other impressive specs. Namely a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13Mp rear facing camera. It's apparently unlikely to include HDMI, DLNA or NFC but a model with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS will be available.

Meanwhile the HTC R12 will have the same hardware line-up as the R7 but with a 2048 x 1536 resolution on the 12in screen, matching the iPad 4's Retina display.

If these specs are correct then we're not expecting the R7 and R12 to compete with the budget tablets on the market like the Nexus 7. They will rival Microsoft's own Surface tablets of which new versions are tipped to be announced soon.

Both are expected to be launched in October when Windows Blue is tipped to arrive.

PhoneAreana said: "Bear in mind that we have these details from just one source, and they aren't independently confirmed by others so far, thus take them as just an intriguing speculation for now."
