Apple transparent text message

A patent has revealed Apple plans to introduce transparent text messages with the iPhone 6 or a future update to iOS 7.

We all like using our smartphones while on the go but that can introduce dangers such as walking into a lamp post just as we hit send on that text message. However, Apple is looking into transparent text messages to keep us safer while we type. Read: The 21 best smartphones: The best phone you can buy in 2014

The system revolves around the background of an application being modified to display a live feed of whatever the rear camera is looking at – creating an effect like the phone itself (or at least the screen) is transparent.

"The camera can be a rear-facing camera on the device, so that the video images represent the views that the device's user would see if the device's display were transparent. The camera can continuously capture and present the video images as the background in the text messaging session, so that the device's user continuously can be aware of the environment beyond the device's display while still focusing on the text messages being communicated." states the patent.

This idea could be useful for other situations like reading a book or even checking your emails. The system can be activated via a button inside the app button which then transforms the interface from the regular background to a live video version.

Of course the system means that users would have to point their device straight ahead for it to work properly. The other possible issue is the additional battery power it will take to support the live video feed.
