Tesco has announced a new tier for its popular Clubcard loyalty program. Clubcard Plus gives you more rewards, but also demands a monthly subscription fee. So, is it worth signing up to? Here's what you need to know.
How much does Clubcard Plus cost?
The monthly fee for Clubcard Plus is £7.99 and there is no contract, so you can cancel at any time.
What do you get with Clubcard Plus?
At the moment, Tesco has only outlined the basic benefits of its new scheme, with more details due to be added soon. There are four main attractions for customers, which are as follows:
10% off two big shops in-store
If you head to the supermarket to do your weekly shop, then you’ll be able to take advantage of this deal whenever you pile your trolley high. Tesco has no official description of what constitutes a ‘big’ shop, but the consumer finance site This Is Money confirms that there will be no minimum spend to qualify, although the maximum discount you’ll receive is £20.
So, if you spend £200 in-store twice a month then you’ll save £40.
One thing to note though is the warning that ‘Exclusions and limits apply’. Tesco has yet to reveal what these might be, so before signing up be sure to read the descriptions carefully as you may find some of your favourite or regular purchases are not included in the deal.
10% off Tesco brands in-store
Another way to save money with Clubcard Plus is to opt for dedicated Tesco brands. These include F&F, Fred & Flo, Go Cook, Tesco Pet, Carousel, and Fox & Ivy, all of which qualify for the 10% reduction.
Double data from Tesco Mobile
Those who already use Tesco Mobile as their provider will be glad to know that signing up to Clubcard Plus will instantly give them twice as much data to use each month. The company does state on its website that condition apply, but as of yet there’s no clarification on what these might be.
Tesco Bank credit card with no exchange fees while abroad
This benefit is the one that remains the least clear at the moment. It could indicate that a new Clubcard Plus credit card is introduced or that it’s a perk added onto the standard issue card. As with any credit agreement you’ll need to apply and meet the status conditions, be a UK resident who is over 18, plus there’s the onerous representative rate of 37.7% APR (variable) based on a £1,200 credit limit with 19.9% APR and the subscription cost of Clubcard Plus.
