UK web users spent £539.4m online each week in September, says the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

According to the ONS, a total £5,613.9m each week in September, which equated to £1 in every £10 being spent on the web. ONS also said the figure is three times what was spent online in 2007.

Overall retail sales were 0.7 percent up on August, which saw a 0.4 percent decline on the previous month.

"Despite rates of inflation rocketing, people are still shopping but going online for the best deals," said Alison Guise, MD of
